peptidyl-arginine deiminase

peptidyl-arginine deiminase
EC 3.5.3.15 Enzyme responsible for formation of protein-bound citrulline, a major amino acid in the inner root sheath and medulla of the hair follicle. Substrate is trichohyalin and postsynthetic modification of trichohylain by PAD alters its properties so that it is able to act as a rigid matrix component.
